The new supercomputer Leonardo, hosted by the Italian company Cineca from Bologna, is almost finished. The installation of many thousands of components weighting together about 380 tonnes and creation of approximately 15 thousand connections between building blocks took 750 days of intensive work. This is one of the rare type of so called »exa-scale« supercomputers, that are build in Europe by the joint company for European high-performance computing EuroHPC. Similarly, although twenty-five times more powerful than the Slovenian supercomputer Vega, which, for more than a year and a half helps scientists in their discoveries and represents the largest Slovenian research infrastructure - Leonardo will be completed by end of April. Like Vega, Leonardo will also be completely assembled by the company ART.SIS from Trzin, together with their partners.
