Gears for e-mobility

20.09.2019

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Machine Tool showcased its new gear grinding centre during a presentation on the second day of the trade fair.

190918-P2Keiichiro Iwasaki, CEO of Mitsubishi Heavy Industry Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Machine Tool, presented the company's next innovation for the gear grinding sector. Additionally, the company celebrated its 80th anniversary and underlined the continuous commitment to new and advanced technologies and processes.

The new gear grinding technology is especially interesting for e-mobility providers. With the engine no longer producing any sound, the gear becomes the loudest part of the car. The new technology allows for the mass production of gears that cause less noise while running.

Before, gears were manufactured step by step, this new technology, however, allows for a continuous production process. This way, a finished gear can be produced in two minutes and in a single production step, according to the company. Through this, new transmission designs become possible for designers and engineers.

The presentation also touched upon the new Lamda technology for additive manufacturing. The DED process, the company introduced, promises to be ten times faster than powder bed fusion. One area of application are components for the aerospace industry.
